Description
A wonderful antique French postcard. RPPC, 1907, a real photo post card with an interesting back story. Hand colored, very beautiful. A photo of Place de Opera in Paris, with the Rue de la Paix intersecting. This was the millinery district in Paris, home to the salons of some of the most famous French modistes such as Caroline Reboux, Virot, Julia, Georgette, and even Charles Frederick Worth had his Haute Couture atelier there. The card was purchased in Pairs by F.A. Rooney, one of the owners of the millinery company Sinclair Rooney & Co. of New York, while he was visiting the millinery district to both purchase hats and to bring back French hats to copy for his wholesale American customers. It was posted in Paris in December of 1907 and has the Paris stamp and French postage. Mailed to Mrs. Ewert's millinery parlor, 676 Broadway, Buffalo, New York. This card is directly from Ms. Ewert's estate and she was a very prolific milliner in her time. Mr. Rooney mailed this to her and he stamped a Christmas greeting. "Wishing you a Merry Christmas, Paris December 11th, 1907". I love this card and think anyone would love to have this in their collection.PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS as they serve as part of the condition description.
